Throw back to ‘Finding Help with Special Needs’- Virtual Chat, 2020.

Throwing it back to one of my virtual chit-chats as a guest on the ‘Finding Help with Special Needs’ special edition hosted by Lola Aneke of C.A.D.E.T Academy.

We discussed issues surrounding the industry focus for individuals living with a disability in Nigeria, and the possible ways schools and organizations can help in fostering inclusion.

We also discussed the intentionality of parents staying abreast with their child’s involvement in all therapeutic activities and processes.

We resolved that the right professionals must be sought for medical advice.

An assessment/evaluation must be done to know the specific areas of needs of the individual.

Ask questions, clarify and follow up with recommendations for support.

Join a network of parents, professionals who would provide mental support and encouragement

Be deliberate about what works; follow up with progress made.

Additionally, so many other aspects were discussed which included accessing immediate and long-term support for parents, families and educators. We touched on employability for young adults with disabilities as well.

It was indeed a great time of learning and sharing!
